What is Thought Field Therapy TFT?
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) was founded over 20 years ago by Dr. Roger Callaghan - an American clinical psychologist. He discovered that fears and phobias could be treated quickly and effectively by tapping on certain parts of the body and head.
The therapy is based on the belief that when we think of something we create
a 'thought field'. However, this thought field is disrupted when we develop fears and phobias. Using the same energy meridians as Acupressure, TFT clears the disruption from the thought field, leaving the client free of the original fear or phobia.
During the session, the client is asked to think of their problem and rate their feelings on a scale of 1 - 10, where 1 is no feeling of fear to 10 which is the worst feeling they can experience. The client is then shown where to tap on themselves using specific points in a particular sequence. The therapy continues until 1 on the scale is reached and the client can no longer evoke the same feelings, of fear or distress, that they had at the start of the session.
What is Neuro Linguistic Programming? NLP
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a model of communication that focuses on identifying and using patterns of thought that influence a person’s behaviour as a means of improving the quality and effectiveness of their lives. It offers a paradigm of how the brain works (neuro), about how language interacts with the brain (linguistic), and how we use this interaction to get the results we want for ourselves and others (programming). It is an effective, proven vehicle for accelerated human change, radically altering the “old way” of lengthy psychotherapy.
NLP was initially created by linguist Dr. John Grinder and computer scientist Dr. Richard Bandler. Together they produced a linguistic model that identified the language patterns of a few gifted individuals such as hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, MD., Fritz Perls of Gestalt therapy, anthropologist Gregory Bateson and Virginia Satir of family systems therapy. The synthesis of their findings, a blend of cognitive and behavioural science, resulted in the technology known as Neuro Linguistic Programming. In the 20+ years since it was first developed, NLP has grown, changed and expanded, and it continues to do so today.
